Licensing in Fountain
Font licensing in Fountain comes in two primary models, each designed to accommodate different usage scenarios and business needs.
Entity or tier
Entity-based licensing
Entity-based licensing follows the traditional licensing model where usage rights are tied to specific entities within an organization. An "entity" can represent different units such as individual desktop installations or employee seats. This model offers flexibility through unlimited licensing levels, each with its own pricing multiplier to scale costs appropriately based on usage scope. The structure remains straightforward despite its scalability, making it suitable for organizations of various sizes.
When entity-based licensing is selected in Fountain without additional configuration, the system automatically defaults to three standard entities: desktop, web, and app, each with 3–5 levels.
Tier-based licensing
Tier-based licensing operates as a package-deal system with predefined tiers that correspond to different usage needs. Each tier is designed to accommodate a specific range of usage metrics—whether desktop users, monthly web visitors, mobile app installations, or any other criteria you define.
When tier-based licensing is selected in Fountain without additional configuration, the system automatically defaults to three standard options: small, medium, and large tiers to cover most common usage scenarios. This can easily be customized.
Addons
Beside the "regular" license, the concept of add-on also exist. This works similari to entities, level add-ons for a license, such as "use in logotype" or "use in social media". This also has levels, with separapte multiplier. Differens from entity/tier since no separate license
Mutliplier
Both entity- and tier-based liceinsgin use mutlipler, as well as add-ons. Each font and bundle has a base price. The multiplier is used with the base price, and making it easier to plan a pricing.
